understanding

History

Santa Rosa has a rich history, and various organizations call the area home. Pomo, Miwok, and Wapo Indians first settled in the area, followed by Spaniards in the early 1800s. The first scheduled site was held as Rancho Cabeza de Santa Rosa and given by the Spanish authorities to Senola Maria Ignacia López de Carillo.

In 1867, Santa Rosa was admitted to be incorporated, and the establishment was confirmed by the government in 1868, and Petalma was incorporated into Santa Rosa in 1858, Heilsburg was incorporated into Sonoma County in 1867, and the third incorporated into Sonoma County in 1867.

The city continued to grow when other early population groups declined and became stagnant, but in 1900 it was overtaken or overtaken by many other new population groups in San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California. According to an article in the 1905 Press Democrat newspaper, the city was only 10,000 people.

The entire downtown area was essentially destroyed during the San Francisco earthquake on April 18, 1906, but the population of the city was not seriously affected. However, the population of Santa Rosa, like most regions, was very slow.

In 1943, Alfred Hitchcock shot a thriller "Shadow of Doubt" at Santa Rosa. He used Santa Rosa, later on the Bodega Bay, and appeared in many movies. This has made Santa Rosa the center of many movies in the Bay Area.

by car

Santa Rosa is located 55 miles north of San Francisco via Route 101. Depending on traffic conditions, this drive can run in less than an hour. It takes two hours to travel during commuting hours. It's best to avoid expressways during the rush hour on weekdays and on weekends after sporting events. The routes running Route 1 and Sonomadani are beautiful and have alternative routes.

by bus

The Golden Gate Transit operates daily buses from San Francisco and the North Bay area. Although the bus is very comfortable, it is affected by the same traffic delays despite access to the Carpool Lane, which goes up and down Route 101.

Greyhound offers vehicles from the San Francisco, Auckland and the South Bay Area to the north from Alcata and to Santa Rosa, a region of South Bay.

  • From Sonoma-Marin-Gun, Kinmon Transit +1-415-455-2000.
  • Greyhound will provide +1-800-231-2222 transit to San Francisco, which will be contacted and directed towards Alcata.
  • Buses from Mendochino Transit and Mendochino County.
  • Sonoma County Transportation

Plane

  • Charles M. Schultz-Sonoma County Airport (STS IATA)×1. Alaska Airlines can fly directly from Los Angeles, Orange County, Portland to San Diego, Seattle. with the American Eagle, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. United Express—Denver, San Francisco (updated April 2020)
  • San Francisco International Airport is 70 miles away and flies far and wide. Between Sonobe Airport Express Co., Ltd. operates shuttle services every hour. The cheaper method is to use Samtrans in San Francisco and then Golden Gate Transit.

by ship

Although there is no ferry to Santa Rosa in the San Francisco Bay area, it can be used as a transit of many buses to North Bay, providing a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Skyline.

  • Golden Gate Ferries +1-415-455-2000. He served Larkspur and Sausalito. The smart train connects Santa Rosa and the Larkspur ship.
  • Blue and Gold ☏De Fleet, +1-415-705-8200 He served Alameda, Angel Island, Auckland, Southarito, Tiburon, and Valerjo.

by train

The Sonoma Marine Area Rail Transit (SMART) connects Santa Rosa with Sonoma County airport, Launat Park, Petalma, Novato and San Raphael. The train and bicycle roads connect to the Golden Gate Ferry in Larkspur via a service from San Francisco. A large amount of commuter transportation is carried out with some of the largest cities in the wine country. The 2 Santa Rosa Railway Square, a stop facing the urban area, is located on Seventh Avenue, just next to a historic station.

with one's thumb

Hitchhiking in the North Bay is generally accepted, but as usual, the head is well-turned. Travelers will be more lucky, not near Route 101, but along the main road along the coast which they walk with tourists. If they wanted to escape from San Francisco, they would go through the Golden Gate to Vista Point, out the scenic spot, and then all the traffic would go north. If you listen to it, many of the friendly residents of the Bay Area are delighted and go north to Sonoma County or Santa Rosa.

walk around

The most common way to travel around Santa Rosa and the surrounding area is to travel mostly out of the country and to a private car. There is a Santa Rosa City Bus, but the frequency, business hours, and range of operation meet many demands. Although Sonoma County Transportation and the Golden Gate Transit are also providing services in Santa Rosa, they are mainly focused on traveling between cities.

Buying a bicycle at Santa Rosa is a reasonable choice. Since the destination can be reached by roads with few traffic, the road from downtown to the western metropolitan area is prominent. The main off-street bicycles and pedestrian lanes are "Prince Memorial Green Way," which runs west through the city along the bank of Santa Rosa Creek from the city hall in the center of downtown. It connects the Joe Rodta Trail, a paved off-street road to Sevastopol, near the Marriott Hotel on the west side of the downtown street. Many of the cities are relatively flat.

The center of the downtown area is easy to walk, and if you stay downtown, you can walk all day.
